Is he  in with the Texas Oil  Barons? I paid $3.57/gallon at the pump today. I thought this was the hope and change POTUS. Get some of that hope and change working to drill for oil where we KNOW it is located and quit putting endless taxes and regulations on power producers with this green energy fantasy.

You beat me to it. Obama has failed with his energy policy. He gave the go-ahead on more drilling, then the oil rig accident happened and he pulled the plug on more drilling. He hasn't reinstated it. He did not allow the Keystone pipeline to be built. There is some key watershed in Nebraska that could be affected should there be a leak. He could have said as much and said he'd support it if they alter the route. But he's not said that. Apparently his environmental buddies have put the squeeze on him.

Speaking of the oil rig explosion, anyone else find it bit odd it 1) happened not too long after Obama signs the go-ahead for more drilling the explosion happens and 2) the clean up was supposed to take years and they claimed to have had it cleaned up in a year?

MRM,

Each day I head down to the office and pass the pump and price per gallon goes up $0.10 per gallon each day. Am I the only one noticing? I have not heard one media expose on the failure of this administration to have an energy policy, nixing the Keystone Pipeline, or limiting the USA's dependence on Middle East oil. Solyndra is not going to get it done.

Neither are electric cars since they can only go 80 miles on a charge.

Well, since electric cars only get 80 miles today, might as well forget it.  Technology is at a standstill.  Look around you.  There is probably nothing you're using today that has improved at all in a decade or two....

Just think if we had used that same mindset regarding technology and making our plight better when it comes to oil exploration and development in the US? We might actually be oil INDEPENDENT today.

BTW, this applies to WHICHEVER party opposes doing it safely and reasonably.

The automakers have had 20 years to get electric cars a lot better than what they are now.

No, we'd never be oil independent.  The math is pretty simple - we don't have the reserves that are easily accessed to fuel the U.S.  What might have made a huge difference over 30 years is making solar, wind, geothermal, nuclear even, part of an energy PLAN.  Instead, we spend a $100 billion or more per year guarding oil supplies and making sure our supply lines stay open in the ME.

How about this math?

In a first, gas and other fuels are top U.S. export

Measured in dollars, the nation is on pace this year to ship more gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel than any other single export, according to U.S. Census data going back to 1990. It will also be the first year in more than 60 that America has been a net exporter of these fuels.

The trend is significant because for decades the U.S. has relied on huge imports of fuel from Europe in order to meet demand. It only reinforced the image of America as an energy hog. And up until a few years ago, whenever gasoline prices climbed, there were complaints in Congress that U.S. refiners were not growing quickly enough to satisfy domestic demand; that controversy would appear to be over.

And yet fuel prices continue to climb.

That's true, and they are FAR better than they were 20 years ago.  Not good enough, but the fact is we've had decades of subsidies for oil, gas, coal, and nuclear.  Billions per year, every year, for decades, and they're sacrosanct, untouchable.  Electric transportation simply hasn't had the same level of support EVER.

At any rate, it's not at all fair to look at the failure of electric cars and conclude it's because of technology limitations.  There are a lot of difficult issue, among them being there are a LOT of entrenched interests who are making a lot of money with the status quo and therefore are working like heck to keep it that way.
