How about this math?

In a first, gas and other fuels are top U.S. export

Measured in dollars, the nation is on pace this year to ship more gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel than any other single export, according to U.S. Census data going back to 1990. It will also be the first year in more than 60 that America has been a net exporter of these fuels.

The trend is significant because for decades the U.S. has relied on huge imports of fuel from Europe in order to meet demand. It only reinforced the image of America as an energy hog. And up until a few years ago, whenever gasoline prices climbed, there were complaints in Congress that U.S. refiners were not growing quickly enough to satisfy domestic demand; that controversy would appear to be over.

And yet fuel prices continue to climb.

Yeah, it ought to tell you something about the oil and gas lobby.  How many times have we heard about refinery capacity being a cause?  Fact is the oil companies were busy buying up and shutting DOWN refinery capacity to limit supply and keep prices high.  This has been well knows for a decade at least, since I've been reading the data for that long at least.  In other words, lies come pretty easily to the lobbyists when they're explaining high gas prices, etc.  Anyone who trusts a word they say just isn't paying attention.

For example, anyone who thinks the pipeline is about supplying the U.S. with fuel is a dupe.  That oil is going to refineries where it can be more easily EXPORTED as a finished product.  Nothing wrong with that, but it's sure as hell not about meeting U.S. demand, as those stats clearly show.  Heck, even the pipeline operators tell us this.  The jobs numbers are bogus.  It's a real controversy, but the reasons for doing the pipeline have little or nothing to do with the propaganda about it.  Minimal jobs, to get oil to U.S. refineries for easy loading on ships to export.  That's the goal.

Heck, it can get to midwest refineries right now.  But there's a glut there, so the prices for gas are TOO LOW.  So a primary goal is to bypass overcapacity interior refineries so they can RAISE gasoline prices in those areas.
