Mitt Romney: "I'm Not Concerned About the Very Poor"

I give him credit for being honest and espousing the general mindset of the GOP. We've know for years that conservatives couldn't care less about the poor. However, I'm skeptical about his concern for the middle class. He clearly wants their votes, but I am dubious his GOP failed policies will do anything to mitigate their plight.

And just what "repairs" does he propose to "fix" the plight of the poor? Very vague politospeak.

Romney said on Wednesday that he's "not concerned about the very poor," citing the social safety net in place for that segment of the populace and adding that he's focused on the middle class.

"I'm in this race because I care about Americans. I'm not concerned about the very poor. We have a safety net there. If it needs repair, I'll fix it," the Republican front-runner said Wednesday on CNN, following his victory in the Florida primary. "I'm not concerned about the very rich, they're doing just fine. I'm concerned about the very heart of the America, the 90 percent, 95 percent of Americans who right now are struggling."

You mean like Obama's answer to the OWS lady the other day that has been out of work for years, and she asked him what he was going to do to fix it:

Grow the economy.  /ROFLMAO/

That just inspired me to do cartwheels.  /ROFLMAO/ /joncrompton/

Or the women who said her husband was an engineer and couldn't find work. Obama's response:

Interesting.

Again, I am truly inspired. BTW, in a great political move, he told her to send his resume to DC, and he will see what he can do. Maybe he has some jobs in his "stash" as well.  //BIB/

Couldn't agree more:

Do I believe he will do anything to fix it? That is another question.

The economy is growing, albeit not as fast as we would like. It sure as hell beats the mess your side left us when Obama took office. In case you've forgotten, the economy was losing 750,000 jobs/month. The GOP's economic policies (give tax breaks to the uber-wealthy and fantasize that the benefits will trickle down to mass of plebeians) are proven failures, yet your side continues to espouse them, despite an avalanche of evidence they don't work.

Mitt Romney's proposals are just more of the same failed strategies we've seen from the GOP in the past.

In case you have forgotten, the CBO just yesterday said real unemployment is at 10%. I believe it is higher. Show me, as I have yet to see it from you, the unemployment rates along with the Misery Index from 2000 until 2011. FYI, we now also have record food stamp enrollment, record BLACK unemployment, the worst year in real estate EVER in 2011, etc., etc., etc. Obamanomics is working wonderfully!!! Ummmm, ummmm, ummmm.

FYI, Bush's economic/fiscal policies were not good, but as you guys have said, at least it is not as bad as Dear Leader. And as you also say: FACT!!! :o

BTW, nice job starting ANOTHER deceptive thread!!! Why don't you just put two of Romney's statements together to make him REALLY sound good?

"I like to fire people. Especially the very poor who I am not concerned about."

NCVol:
You know, I will gladly give Romney a break on his slips of the tongue.  The problems are, 1) he's a TERRIBLE politician.  Seriously, you don't say, "Not concerned about the very poor" - we're in a depression and only slowly emerging from it.  There are about 1,000 ways to make the point he was apparently trying to make and he picked the worst one. His "I like to fire people" is similarly dumb.  He's just an idiot for a politician.

2) The fact is there is nothing on his agenda to indicate he DOES care about the poor.  Really.  Nothing.  It's not like he said it, but we ignore a string of serious proposals on how to fix things like...... oh, maybe, let's see, ummm, uhhh, ...... 10s OF MILLIONS WITHOUT HEALTH INSURANCE AND ONE SICKNESS FROM FINANCIAL RUIN!!!  His job as candidate is to serve the plutocrats, and that's what his serious proposals deal with.  He ain't getting the "poor" vote, so he doesn't care about policies that affect them.  It's just reality....
