ROTFLMAO.

The only thing funnier than Romney's quixotic quote, are the conservative lemmings who actually believe him.

Ever heard of "cut the fat"?

No one is going to balance the budget without raising taxes, unless you want to eliminate SS, Medicare, and virtually decimate the military. That will never happen under any administration.

When was the last time a Republican balanced the budget? How many times must history repeat itself before the light bulb goes on in conservative heads?

Ever heard of "cut the fat"?

If you want to prove to yourself this is a bogus talking point from the right wing, and it is, just sit down some evening with the wikipedia summary of the budget for a recent year.  And then see what it takes to cut a trillion in spending. You can literally close every office, eliminate every department, EPA, NIH, Commerce, Agriculture, prisons, Homeland security - fire every single employee not involved in entitlements.  Reduce the entire discretionary non-defense spending to NOTHING.  And you won't balance the budget at current revenue levels.

Here's the 2010 numbers.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_United_States_federal_budget

Total discretionary budget - 1.4 trillion.
Defense - 700B

And defense isn't complete, since a lot of "defense" is buried in energy and other departments.  But even if you assume that it's correct, ALL of "big gubment" is 700B.  There's no amount of fat you can cut to get to balance, since you can cut EVERY DIME and STILL NOT BALANCE THE BUDGET.

Don't take my word for it.  Look it up anywhere you want.  And if you do it, then you'll know every time someone tells you it can be done, and you hear it all the time by people who know or should know better, that they're eitherignorant or a liar.

It's one of many reasons why I'm not a conservative anymore, because conservative leaders demonstrate their ignorance or aptitude for lies every time the budget is discussed.

Did you see this quote from Obama? Unbelievable:

“we cannot, we must not and we will not balance the budget.”

Here is the link if you do not believe me:

Yeah, unbelievable.

Romney's quote was however totally in context.  And also unbelievable, but for a different reason, because if he says it and believes it, he's stupid....

The bad thing about the current GOP is just a few years ago, they'd say these things and you'd know it was campaign talk.  Of course they'd raise taxes if it came down to it because it has to be done, or else we can't balance the budget, so who cares that he makes a promise he can't keep.  He'll just figure out a way to finesse the claim... no big deal.

But with the crazies, I think they might actually NEVER vote to raise taxes.  I think they're that dogmatic, and if it takes default, well, as Boner said about hundreds of thousands of jobs losses, "So be it."

Question for my conservative friends:

When was the last time a Republican president balanced the budget?

When you learn the answer, ask yourself why in Hades would you think that suddenly now, in the midst of one of the worst economic times since the Great Depression, a GOP president would balance the budget, much less by not raising taxes?
