Everyday, some company is closing, laying off people, or cutting hours. It's getting tougher every day. Goody's is closing their doors, Image Point closed, Denso is cutting employees to 32 hours a week, and Circuit City is closing all its stores. Anyone on here nervous about their job?

I'd like to think I'm pretty safe. But you just never know. The company I work for has never laid off one person for lack or work in 60 years of business. The owner has assured us things are okay for now with our situation, but we will have a slower year this year for sure. I think he's going to do all he can not to let anyone go if it ever gets worse for us. I'm going to be in the position to get a new (actually used, but new to me) car in a few months. I feel good enough to get one, but things can change quickly.

If anyone on here has already lost their job, I feel for you. Being in and out of work in the early 90's was no fun for me. I don't want to go through that again and would never wish that on anyone.

I feel very fortunate to be happily retired, even though I am not of retirement age.  Everything I have is paid for and I have no credit cards.  Worked extremely hard all my life but I am very fortunate indeed.  I pray for every one who doesn't have a job these days.

The better question is who isn't worried about their job?  I've worked for the same company for almost 15 years, but I've seen that due to the economy, no one is safe.  I've been forced to lay off some very good employees, and it still haunts me.  I'm a glass is half full type of person, however it used to be that layoffs were typically a good excuse to downsize the low performers or dead weight.  That is not the case anymore...not in this economy.

I am in Public Housing, our business is booming. The only trouble is that their is no money to pay for the product, so we have had major layoffs and force outs over the last couple of years. It is touch and go but I hope I am good to go!! We shall see.. Today may have been the worse single days for layoffs in the history of the USA

I thought Nobama was gonna put money in folks pockets and a chicken in every pot put create all those many new jobs.  Surely that wasn't just campaign retoric.

Unemployment will hit 10% by May 1st.  2009 will be much worse than 2008, and I hope that a recovery will begin in 4th quarter 2009 or 1st quarter 2010.  Many employers won't be patient, and layoffs will continue.  Offshoring jobs to India and South Africa at 1/4 the cost of US jobs surely won't help US economic conditions.
