rather sad to see a potus reduced to calling out private citizens. Perhaps it is time to strop campaigning and start governing responsibly.
if he (the current potus) can't handle the critique by a private citizen what is he going to do when faced with world despots
pushing back?

Quote
Obama was angry that Merrill Lynch used $1.2 million of TARP money to remodel an executive suite. Excuse me, but didn't Merrill have to hire a decorator and contractor? Didn't they have to buy the new furnishings? What's the difference in that and Merrill loaning that money to a decorator, contractor and goods supplier to remodel Warren Buffet's office? Either way, stimulus in the private sector occurs.

First of all, that was only a part of the problem.  Thain, who was fired, was paid $87 million in 2007, and millions more in 2008, for leading his firm into failure and bankruptcy.  At the same time he was asking for a $10 million bonues for, essentially, securing a government bailout of the firm that is bankrupt, he was redecorating his office suite.  He didn't get his own $10 million bonus, but he did push through bonuses to his top people two days before the sale of Merrill to BOA was finalized, a couple of months ahead of normal, to make sure those people got what they "deserved" for running Merrill into failure and bankruptcy.

And the "private stimulus" argument has to be the dumbest thing I've ever heard from Rush.  What he's defending is the private profits, public losses arrangement that IS Wall Street right now.  Why didn't he compare the $1.2 million spent there to $1.2 million spent by 30 people making 40k per year on food, clothing, furniture, automobiles?  It's easier to compare one guy who got rich off the private profits/socialized losses to another guy who so far has gotten rich of investing but hasn't needed a bailout yet, except to prop up quite a few of his holdings, like GE and GS.

Rush is essentially defending the entitlement culture of Wall Street.  They're ENTITLED to make 10s of millions, have extravagant offices, even as their companies are failing.  Hey, they're the smartest guys in the room, so why should Thain or Merrill have to suffer anything because of their bad mistakes?  It's beyond their control, and clearly - as Rush says later on - government's fault that Merrill bought shiate for assets and those assets went to zero.  Who could blame the people who bought the worthless shiate and paid themselves, in Thain's case, 87 million the year before the company collapsed?

NCVOL is about as ignorant as you will find on this side of the Atlantic Ocean. The Merril comment was a backhand. By the way, if they took 1.2 million and gave it to business that perform a service or products to remodel something than that is by definition stimulus. Stop being jealous of achievers and get a job.

DaVols, name calling isn't all that much fun, so I'll pass on a response.

The M-L office remodel job was in January 2008.

No bailout money was involved.

President Hopenchange is a lying SOS.

Oh my, that changes EVERYTHING.  I mean if he paid himself 87 million in 2007, and spent 1.2 million on his office space during 2008, and over 200k for his personal driver in 2008, as Merrill was going to zero, then he was doing a GREAT job watching out for shareholders and protecting his company's assets which now require taxpayers to guarantee 100 BILLION or so in potential losses.

It's an amazing site seeing conservatives DEFEND private profits and public losses.  What part of that can't be obscene to any believer in free markets?

Any guess on what his "severance" will be.
