I say it is 60/40 in favor of recruiting. Has Pearl been good as a talent evaluator (recruiter)?Has Pearl been able to coach up the talent he brought in. Pearl looked like he could coach for a while, but those were Buzz's players. He has recruited this team. He even got the added benfit of lucking out with Tyler Smith. Honestly Sheep without the Kool-Aid glasses and hype, Has Pearl been a good, great, or average coach on the court and out recruiting?

Pearl is one dimensional. And that's no knock. He is very good at coaching a pressing team. This team has not taken on that mentality. It's left him to coach a half-court team and he is not a half-court coach. He doesn't coach offense as much as his style was turnover driven to get easy transition baskets. His set offense while Lofton and J. Smith were here was to run base line rubs to free up threes.

These players thought they would be playing that frenetic tempo, but for what ever reason they didn't pull it off.

In today's game if you don't have a pure 3 pt shooter (and you probably need at least 2) you are not going to be a very good team.  It doesn't matter who the coach is.  We don't have a pure shooter.  You can blame Pearl for that if you want to, but it would be on recruiting.

I think Pearl has missed on some talent evaluations, both on and off the court. I agree with Roust, Pearl is a very good uptempo, pressing style of coach. I believe it takes a player with a chip on his shoulder vs a 4-5 star type of athlete to be able to execute that in your face, 40 minutes of hell. Pearl said he likes the "tough guy" type of player but so far, he can't keep the "tough guys" eligible.

This team is more about "me" instead of "team". Who is the go to guy? Who is the enforcer? Who is your lock down defender? Who is your leader? Pearl, for whatever reason, can't get a PG to save his life.  This team has gotten worse as the season has played out and thats the most disappointing thing about this season. I think most who understand the game realized there would be experience issues. I don't tink ANYONE thought there would be effort issues. This team has no identity and thats a direct refletion of the coach.

All UT needs are a couple of pure shooters...a good lock down defensive guy...one good leader who takes charge...a good glue guy...toss in some gun powder to make everyone a bit meaner and they would be in position to win another championship. UT's problems can be fixed with 3 or 4 good recruiting classes.

Coach Pearl takes a lot of retreads:

Passley (sp?) from UW-Millwaukee.

Ramar Smith from UCONN.

Scotty Hopson from MSU.

Bobby Maze from Oklahoma.

JP Prince from Arizona.

Tyler from Iowa.

Wonder if slower than slow Marques Johnson could have played point for this team?

Lets face it Pearl has missed as far as evaluations on Crews, Maze, and some other players. He has also not coached up the players he has such as Tyler Smith.....

Pearl is still  a top notch coach and TN is damn lucky to have him. I do think the UT fanbase needs to get their nosde out of Pearls butt. The man is not superman and he is human.
