There is a lot of talk about how great Kiffin is and how this staff is going to restore the program.  It is easy to be in favor of a new staff when they haven't lost a game yet.  Lets play a game that counts against a team that beat us last year, UCLA, and see what happens.  I didn't see ANY real improvement on Saturday (Orange and White game).  I hope they look a lot better in the fall then they do now.  I support the change, but I am not drinking the kool aid on Saturday being impressive.  What did I miss?  Our QB play was still terrible, our kicking game is still terrible.

I think most people are just riding on the wave of excitement about something new.  Sure, the team won't be a lot better than last year's, but maybe this staff will be able to make a few adjustments that might win us a few more games.  For instance, any decent play calling last year would have easily won us the UCLA, Auburn, and Wyoming games.
With a new/different set of playcallers added to the overwhelming level of excitement attached to this football team...I'd say I'm pretty stoked about the season too.  Oh, and don't forget that we've got a few freshmen that could be difference makers by the middle of the season too.  I'm ready to see Janzen Jackson play in a CMK defense.

Its natural to get excited over something new. People were  when Myer got to Florida, Weiss got to ND, etc. etc.

UT fans seem to be optimists for the most part, but damn they will turn on you quick. I'd say Kiff has a one year honeymoon & then better put 9 to 10 wins on the board or he's on the hot seat.

Trust me, Monte has PLENTY up his sleeve for this season. And don't bet for ONE MINUTE that the sheep down in tide-ville are not losing sleep over it already...

Maybe in some cases. It depends on where you are and what the situation is. I can tell you for as many Tampa Bay fans that were tired of Jon Gruden, there are more fans that are not happy with the new coach and GM there. I know that's pro ball. But you can't tell me more Auburn fans are fired up about the '09 season.

I don't think Chizik is the joke of a hire that some people make it out to be.  The only difference between him and Muschamp is that WC took a rebuilding job at a place where you can't win.  He seems to have hired a good staff that can recruit.  He's a good public speaker.  I wouldn't read too much in to his record at ISU.

This is TN and real fans with a real stake in UT want to and will give Lane a fair shake. I think any new man gets a bovids pass and treatment. The only football coach in my life time treated with any real disrespect on a large scale was Battle.

Anybody with any real sense knew that Majors had outlasted his welcome and should have been fired at least 5 years earlier than his exit.  The general response was what took them so long to fire his . I understand a close friend of Johnny and a real money booster told Johnny that after numerous public temper tantrums and it went over his head. He just started in on his patented ego trip stories of his days as a Single wing TB and his heroics at Pittsburg like anybody had not heard that crap ad naseum from him.

DAD quit on us and went to FL and he was still welcomed back by a majority of the SHEEP with open arms.

Even with Fulmer folks bent over backwards to let him leave with dignity and let him get his Neyland Trophy. Most folks wished to treat him with dignity. Some of the Majors folks still had an axe to grind and some folks just didn't like him because he wasn't Spurrier. Over all he was treated well.

The folks that treated Majors, Fulmer, DAD and Battle well will also treat Lane with dignity, wish him the best and support the program. Those folks will be a bit sheepy towards him.....

I on the other hand really did not warm up to Fulmer until after he delivered the NC and I even felt empathy for him as the trash element started bashing him and his family. I was a Majors supporter until the end when I realized what a sorry trashy egostistical bastard the guy really was. I never forgave DAD for Florida and I never will, but I do wish he could comeback to UT to oversee  Ogeron as he grasps the reigns of our program.

What I know about Kiffin is he is a typical football coach, a . The spin about putting UT into the spotlight is sheep talk to cover the fact that yes he really is that stupid. But the guy is connected in the football world and is surrounded with really good people as he grows on the job... A current assistant AD says he is a rich man's Buzz Peterson, a stuffed shirt with a pretty face. Tony Basilio referred to him as a Barbi or Ken hire when he first was announced.

To be fair Majors success was based on surrounding himself with good people. His downfall was his ego and how he screwed them because of his insecurity. On the other hand Fulmer was a smart guy who surrounded himself with idiots because he lacked the confidence to surround himself with top notch staff. Thus Randy Sanders and Dave Clawson.

To sum up this manifesto I am glad he is getting the SHEEP Love  and folks are drinking the kool Aid. In the future Small Mike just might be calling for his head on radio shows from coast to coast...

Fulmer is an average coach that is the product of being at the right place at the right time.  Nothing more, nothing less.  He took over an established program and made the most of it for 5 or 6 years before it started to collapse.  He won't be heard from again on the big stage.  He's over his head as a head coach and nobody wants him.

Terrible Towel ole Fulmer is in a very small fraternity of guys who won a NC

Do you think if Majors had been able to stick around he had another NC in his pocket? I don't because I don't think Majors could have signed Manning . Signing Majors made TN a hot program and allowed UT to step in and upgrade our recruiting over all to NC caliber of players.
