and hoist Coach Dickey's arm in a salute to him for the great team 1969 UT Volunteer Football Champs--SEC champs who also won the bama state title--at Neyland tonight?  Those Volunteers, including Bobby Scott, Steve Kiner (mule infamy), the Crossville Comet (Curt Watson), Coach Fulmer (a soph starter), & Jack Hacksaw Reynolds will be honored at the Ohio game.

Coach Majors says he is now back in the UT family, so I wonder if he will be on the field to congratulate Coach Dickey?  Coach Dickey won almost as many SEC titles for Big Orange Country as Coach Majors did in only 6 years while rebuilding UT's football program & installing a new offensive system after Coach Wyatt & UTAD Neyland left it a little down.  He should be.

They did lose to Archie & Old Misery that year in a big upset.  Coach Dickey talked about how Coach Johnny Vaught had a mule paraded around campus all week to fire up the town.  I think he said he brought it to campus (interview on 990 AM).

Most of the 1180 crowd has sought to DEMONIZE Coach Dickey & would never praise him but that record speaks for itself.  My apology in advance to the 1180 Whine & Biscuit Show, if they have already decided to follow 990 AM's lead and discuss the 69ers & its great young Coach, Doug Dickey.  Of course, a lot of the UT Jethro Element, like Coach Majors, is still bitter over Coach Dickey leaving for his alma mater--just like Coach Majors did to Pittsburgh.

My apology also to Low-Class Basilio, who is probably preparing for his Fifth Quart Show, as I am sure he covered the great 69ers on his shows this week.

Congratulations to the Tennessee Legends!

I will give Coach some credit for UT traditions.  I use to run into Coach Dickey on a regular basis.  He was a jerk most of the time.  I remember I asked him a simple question about our OL and he wouldn't give me an answer.  Phuck him.  How do you like that sky?  Am I not a fan.  I will be there in the rain for my 3rd game this year.  Stick that in your self-righteous pipe and smoke it.

I have still not recovered from DAD bolting to Florida, yes I have a long memory and I do not forgive or forget. I also questioned his negotiations wit the SEC when we went to Divisional Play. He represented UT but I still believe his loyalty to FL was reflected in his stance on scheduling.

I also think he should have stepped aside and let BB people make BB coaching decisions.

But I still remember the DAD football teams and how he dragged TN from having important games with UT Chattanooga to playing for a NC during his tenure

Screw Dickey. He was never a Vol. Always a Gator, and he screwed us in the 70s after he had it rolling. The moron could have won more National Titles here. He is nothing but a greedy Gaytor in my eyes.

boyz,

Where do I begin? The first time I ever saw thesouthdakotastud was at a spring practice in either his first or second year as head ball coach. He was walking back into the dressing area after practice and as he came through the tunnel, he cast a giant shadow. He was the tallest person I had ever seen in my life and I was a little frightened. He didn't say a word to a bunch of us kids who were standing there. It broke my heart when left and like plumbervol, I have neither forgotten nor forgiven, Alma mater or no.

I celebrate the 1969 SEC Champs as much as the next shipe. They were the heroes of the day! I don't remember Phillip starting as a soph, but maybe he did (I doubt it). Whatever Johnny Majors thinks about it is OK by me.

badbob and She Who Must Be Obeyed had been married for about two months when the Mule game was played. We were in Denver, doing what newly married people do when the score came over the black-and-white TV in our apartment. It was the most deflating experience ever...

Heck, Coach Dickey hurt BasiliosMan182 and his feelings and BasiliosMan182 was NOT even born when Coach Dickey coached here.

dc,

You can Surgically Boo the guy today like the chronic UT Jethros probably will, but the FACT is he dragged UT out of the dumpster in the 1960's with some fun and beautiful football teams, built probably half the physical structures in place today, kept us out of the NCAA doghouse, kept a coach sober enough, and then had enough sense to hire a great young UT man and coach who produced a NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP for YOUR Volunteers.  That is his legacy.

Oh, and he balanced the books.

I am so sorry Coach Dickey could not answer your OL question.  He probably sensed that you would run to Basilio and spill your guts.    It is a shame that Low-class Basilio wants to make money off of the continued demonization of him.

Sounds like badbob has not recovered in several senses from that day?

I guess you guys are right about the broken hearts, but not the forgiveness part.

I am greatful to Coach Dickhead for giving us "running through the T" and the "T" on the helmet. He shook things up and was a great coach. But in the end, he betrayed us for the frigging Gaytors. How do you defend what he did to the basketball program?

And to you Basiliosman blast, I told you, I don't have a dog in that fight. He just brings it up on a regular basis. Call into his show and defend yourself. If he is lying, call him on it.

It seems to me that you are to Coach Dickhead as DumbVols is to Coach Fulmer.

bb,

Good point.

BasiliosMan182,

It seems to me you are to Basilio as Roger is to Heather Harrington.

He knows my price to be on that show:  $10,000.00--cashier's check.  In the meantime, I will continue to post without an editorial filter on SPS for his minions to consume.
