I have been a big proponent of the polls not being released until mid October at the earliest. There is absolutely no way of determining what teams are the best until they have play 5-6 games. Just look at the SEC...they are so overrated it's comical. For instance...Ole Miss ranked as a #4...they proved just how overrated they were against USCe. Now, you have LSU @ number 4 and LSU is at least a 3-4 loss team. They will get beat this week.

You have Boise State ranked number 5...come on. This just shows how ridiculous polls are. Sure, they are a good team but number 5?    The list just goes on and on.

Could someone explain to me what the infatuation is with these polls? Some fans place their teams whole importance on where they are ranked. WHY? It's one of the biggest jokes in all of sports yet these fans place such a huge importance on these polls. Allowing pencil necked geeks to choose who should play for the championship is a freakin joke. This, to me, is why college football is missing the boat. Without a playoff, you will NEVER be able to truly determine the best team.

The SEC is the most overrated conference in college football. I heard announcers this weekend say...The winner of the SEC championship game should play for the national championship!  WHAT? After 3-4 games, they are ready to crown whoever wins the SEC as a team worthy of playing for a national championship. If that team is undefeated, MAYBE, but how can anyone in their right mind make that determination after 3-4 games. It's a joke and an embarrassment to college football fans everywhere.

Anyway, I just wanted to hear what others opinions are on these beauty pageant type polls than run so many of college football fans lives.

Get rid of the polls, take the division winners (eliminate conference championship games) and conference regular season winners from BCS conferences, rank those teams after the regular season, and have a playoff.  Rankings would only matter for setting the brackets for the playoff.

I think you have to have the conference playoff games. It's the only way to determine a true champion. Any conference that refuses to have a playoff, should be eliminated from any chance at a national championship. College football has to eliminate the human element. To much bias...to many agendas...to much politics to allow humans to decide who plays for the NC.

While I agree with what youre saying RT.....

An arguement could be made that hoops is comical in that a team that finsihed 6th in its own league can win the NC. That is pretty screwed up also. Nova back in the day comes to mind and Im not even sure the field was 64 then??

I like the conference championship games but if you have them, the most teams a conference could have in a National Championship tournament is one.  For example, last year imagine Texas, Oklahoma, Florida, Alabama, Virginia Tech, Georgia Tech, USC, Ohio State and the rest playing for the championship on the field.  Injuries and gameplanning would be more of a factor.  It would be the ultimate physical test for the players and mental test for the coaches.  The championship game would not consist of a soft team caused by a 50 day layoff.

Va Tech...Ga Tech...Alabama...Oklahoma...Ohio State...none of those teams deserved to be in the championship game last year. Only ONE team can win a conference championship and that should be the determining factor. When you let all the "also-rans" in, you cheapin it as bad as you do now with the popularity vote.

Any poll that includes Georgia is not a very good poll. We are not a good football team at this point in the season.

Polls are flawed, everyone knows this going in. But who doesn't on here check out the AP every week or every other week during the season?

Uh...OK? So I guess they should of played for the NC? Yup, that ACC power with 4 losses should of played UF...   All the more reason there needs to be a playoff. Thanks for making my point...

Go read your quote numbnuts. You said only ONE team can win a conference championship. You then proceeded to name a bunch of "also rans." Va Tech won thier league. According to your logic of allowing all the conference champs to playoff for the NC Va Tech would have been there.
