They weren't great under Coach Fulmer last year, but this year, the special teams were worse.

Nukeese and his pas deux pas with the football on punt returns.

Kicking out of bounds to start the Ole Misery game.

2-3 kickoffs returned for touchdowns.

The Lincoln meltdown with no clue from Lane or Eddie Gran on how to draw him out of it.

Letting the waterboys try and block Mt. Cody instead of Mt. Williams and another RESTED big body on extra points.

The battle cry of the Whine & Biscuiteers on 1180 when trying to hammer Coach Fulmer was that we need a Special Teams coordinator.  I think we do now.

"The greatest quote in Knoxville radio history [was] when Kiffin was hired.  Hyams was interviewing Pete Carroll - Basilio was talking to W. Lynn and Small Mike. Absolutely classic!"

You can't polish a turd. Last years ST were shite and this years was shite. As a matter of fact, UT has sucked so long in the ST, it's hard to remember the last time they were anygood. VT will expose UT's pathetic special teams and will beat the Vols eyes shut. Bank on it.

They have sucked for years.  We have had some good kickers and great punters recently (Not this year) but other than that it was like they never practiced STs.  It will be interesting to see who they hire to coach them.  If that kicker signs we will have a huge upgrade at KOs and punting.

dc, Your first sentance sums-up this whole discussion. But then again, the topic isn't REALLY about how lame the special teams are. It's really about how it should be blamed on us wine and biscuiteers over at 1180.

ACC beating any SEC teams eyes shut - man that is funny stuff.  I hear Leno is looking for some joke writers.

I believe you said the same thing about Florida and Alabama beating our eyes shut this year. You are the Beano Cook of SPS.

You should audition for one of the 5 callers on the Basilio show.

Sorry, I wasn't posting here when UT played those teams. Yes, Va Tech will beat UT's eyes shut. They were the best team in the ACC but choked when playing Tech. UT is a middle of the pack, at best, SEC team. The SEC is a 2 team league, Bama and Florida. The rest of the league is no better than the Big East. The SEC is the most overrated conference and it's not even debateable. My bet is the SEC will be lucky to go 5-5 in their bowl games. Sorry if that pisses you off but thats just the way it is. You will see in 3 weeks.

Is that why the 6th and 7th best teams in the SEC beat the top two teams in the ACC on the last week of the season?

Those were rivalry games and anything can happen. Mediocre ACC teams playing medicore SEC teams. VT is not a very good team but they are a tough matchup for UT. They will win and the difference will be special teams. UT can't get out of their own way on ST and Beamer will use that advantage to win going away. Two mediocre teams playing in a mediocre bowl. Thats just the way I see it anyway.
