Is one of the best movies that I've ever seen.  Do yourself a favor, go see it.  It's very inspirational and gives you hope in humanity.  The football aspect and coach cameos are icing on the cake.  Orgeron was the best among the coaches IMHO.

Taylor, I thoroughly enjoyed the movie but if a white woman had driven a BMW 7 series into those projects, gotten out of the car dressed like that and threatened a bunch of the locals, the "feel good" part of the movie would have ended right there!!

Knowledge,

If that were true, I don't know how she got away with that.

It was a great movie! Definitely my favorite sports movie now.

Is this the story about Lane Kiffin and UT?

Just kidding.  Thanks for the comments.  I hope to see it soon.  I remember seeing Oher on the Ole Miss sideline win O was their coach.  He had zero Dunlap disease.

I saw the movie after Christmas and just finished reading the book.  The book is outstanding as well.  It's amazing what can be done when you add virtually unlimited resources and money to lots of potential.

The Tuohys are to be greatly commended for taking in Michael Oher when he was nothing but a big old uneducated kid.    Their generosity went a long way in putting this young man in a position to succeed.

However, there had to be something exceptional inside this young man to take advantage of the opportunity and succeed.    With no thanks to anyone, he took full advantage of this opportunity and became a great example of the great American Dream.    He is obviously a great young man both on and off the football field.

rude, I have been in those areas of Memphis and I can tell you nothing like that ever happened!!

Agreed, Oher has ambition and good character.  What a tremendous story!  Did the Tuohy's ever start the foundation that they discussed?

To further indicate the character Oher had before the Tuohys gave him an opportunity.     Recently there has been another abandoned child from the streets of Memphis who has been in the news.  He was taken in by a Christian, white family and enrolled in a private school.    This kid was also bigger than everyone else and a very good athlete at the private school where he was enrolled.    The students, teachers, and administrators worked with the foster parents to try and give this young man a chance to succeed.

Do you know who this other young man is?

An interesting tidbit, in the book, Coach Fulmer "big leagued" the tutor, and she claimed he was some "hick" with no social graces.  He recruited Oher very hard and was obsessive about getting him.  He even had the team practice at Oher's private school (similar to what Kiffin did in Decatur before the Outback Bowl).
