Is the US entering a depression?

It's possible, but I doubt it. The same people claiming such were probably the same ones who claimed the fundamentals of the economy were strong in 2008, none of whom forecast the current recession we're in.

I do know this. Most of the GOP is on their hands and knees praying we enter a depression so Obama won't be elected to another term. They would actually prefer the US to suffer than to see the Dems and Obama retain power. Bad economic news is great news for the GOP. It improves their chances of regaining political power.

I disagree with the first part, agree 100% with the second.

It's clear the republicans have pretty much no ideas and no desire to advance any ideas.  The only concrete proposal I've heard from the economic geniuses in the GOP is to cut taxes further, which should work since the last two got our tax rates to generational lows and did a superb job of taking us right to the second republican great depression (in my view.)  And clearly the Laffer curve works, witness the trillions in debt run up by Reagan and Bush after their tax cuts.  So, it's a brilliant plan!

Well, in addition to revenue raising tax rate cuts, we need to also cut some unknown third of government spending to balance the budget and quit borrowing money from China.  Which is a good plan, if the fiscal conservatives would just be a little bit more specific about where those $1,500 billion will come from......  Since tax increases, Medicare, and defense are off the table, it's a short list.

Zeroing out the ENTIRE non-defense discretionary budget including things like the VA and all the farm programs, and Justice and NIH etc. should leave only about $1,000 billion left to cut in the entitlements.  Since medicare is off the table, you can eliminate SS benefits but keep the taxes, same with unemployment (quit paying benefits, but keep collecting the payroll tax) and throw poor people and kids off of Medicaid and SCHIP, and you're THERE!!!

Anyway, on a three item list, which ones should we cut to slash 1,500 billion?

1)
2)
3)

I've got my "conservative" list.
1) Waste
2) Fraud,
3) ACORN! aka "welfare" and money going to lazy poor people who with six unemployed for every job opening should have no problem getting a damn job if they want one.

That should get us there

We're all waiting with baited breath to hear where YOU would cut 1,500 billion without touching the military, medicare, SS or tax increases!!!  Us libruls need some guidance on what a good republic would do to address this growing crisis!

Hey Just Wind,

We're still waiting. NC Vol has asked you more than once to answer a simple question.
