Wonderful stuff.  I'm sure glad the GOP and right wing fave Lieberman loves the constitution.  I can't imagine the kind of laws we'd get from constitution loving conservatives if they had no regard for civil liberties and the bill of rights....

Among other things, if someone designates you as an "unprivileged enemy belligerent" then Miranda rights don't apply, which is nice.  And you can be detained without trial or charge for the "duration of the hostilities" aka forever, which is doubly good for those who love the constitution!  Especially since this part applies explicitly to U.S. citizens, meaning you and me. 

So, what this means is Obama can designate someone an "unprivileged enemy belligerent" and hold them forever!  This will keep us soooo safe!  GREAT!

Well, we all know that if someone is detained indefinitely by the government or military they MUST BE A TERRORIST. Why else would they be detained? Who cares about the terrorists, right?

What's frustrating is this is the kind of government policy that really is dangerous, and it's introduced by neocon republicans and neocon Lieberman, who is every right wingers favorite former democrat.  The Tea bagger propagandists will condemn Obama for socialism and fascism and all that and ignore or actively support the real dangers being promoted as measures to keep us safe - torture, indefinite detention, warrantless wiretaps, secrecy, and this latest measure. 

I did a quick search of news and found references to this bill on lew rockwell and Ron Paul forums and prison planet (libertarian types), but nothing at all on the fake right wing tea bagger outfits like NRO and WSJ and Fox and Hannity etc.  The only response from them will be to support gutting our constitution and civil liberties to keep us safe, while condemning Obama and the democrats for ushering in the end of the country as we know it because some poor people will get health insurance coverage....
