I remember all of the games except the 1951 loss and I have the self inflicted scars to prove it!!  /Philly/Mostly scar tissue in my gut

The Wyoming loss meant nothing to me, I did not even notice and I think most of the UT folks feel the same way. Wasted year and Wyoming was just another example of the waste that it was. You might as well list the entire season as a greatyest loss and be done with it...

Mike Hamilton had every right to fire Coach Fulmer.

Mike Hamilton had every right to get in bed with unemployed and inexperienced Skippy Kiffin.

Mike Hamilton had every right to schedule Coach Fulmer's firing at the end of the season.  He was not smart enough to do that.  He had already pulled the covers up with the Kiffin's & O.

Mike Hamilton had NO right to STEAL that Wyoming game from UT's players, coaches, and fans!!  ZERO!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike Hamilton can hire ten Bruce Pearls and build 10 Neyland Stadiums all by himself and I will NEVER get over the fact that he through that game away.  No UT fan should either.

Any guy who values wins so cheaply should NOT be Athletic Director at the University of Tennessee.  What he did to cost us the Wyomng game was as immature and NuKeese on a punt or Jackson at the PILOT!!

Mike Hamilton knows a lot about firing up paper pushers and wannabee "UT fans."  He knows nothing about firing up and leading coaches and players.  Nothing.

I will will hang up and await Terrible Towel's analysis.

P.S.  I don't want to hear about him hiring Coach Pearl.  Coach Pearl was selling, competing, and a real builder when they brought him home from the hospital.

"The greatest quote in Knoxville radio history [was] when Kiffin was hired.  Hyams was interviewing Pete Carroll - Basilio was talking to W. Lynn and Small Mike. Absolutely classic!"

How you don't have Wyoming in 2008 is beyond me. And don't give me that crap about just losing a legend. Anytime you lose to a team of Wyoming's caliber it's an embarassment. There are no excuses for that.

There are even more losses that I have not mentioned that would all come before Wyoming. In 1951 Wyoming beat Washington & Lee 21-7 in the Gator Bowl. That year (1950 season) Tenn beat Washington & Lee as well 27-20.

Tenn used to get beat down regularly by UCLA, GA Tech and Duke. They lost to Army and Rutgers when they where as bad as that Western Ky group. Wyoming has some history and they are always looked at as a better program than Duke and Rutgers was at the time as well as Army. Wyoming is a non facter. I left off a loss to Duke in Battle's last year. The mental part of any game is much bigger than any of you understand.

very well said. All except for the fact that Hammy's decision was to keep Buzz. Haslem fired Buzz and asked Grunfeld to hire us a coach. Hammy had as much to do with finding, talking him into it or hiring Pearl as the man on the moon. In other words, zero.

2008 UCLA- Chavis' finest hour!

1992 S. Carolina- 3rd and 23 and UT ran it up the middle. No excuse for that loss.

UT defense was ranked #3 in America after that season.

Majors was the coach coming back from his smoking and drinking induced cardiac problem. It was also the game where they filmed the movie The Program.

The 1939 loss to USC in the Rose Bowl kept Tenn from being 11-0. They finished tied for the SEC title and 2nd in the AP. That loss of 14-0 was another that kept Neyland from winning a title until the year before he retired. By than he was the Joe Pa and Bowden without the success and was in lala land watching Bowden run the program and bring it home (well except for losing that bowl game ) Would we keep a coach that had not won a National Title in his first 20 years or so today? Neyland should have been canned much sooner.

Tenn vs Duke is 14-12. Before Phil it was Duke 12-11

Tenn is 7-6-2 vs UCLA

What dribble drabble. Does Coach K, Saban, Meyer, Izzo, etc or even Pearl need an AD to fire up them and their players?

DuhVols, the national champion was voted on in the polls BEFORE the bowls until 1968. The 1939 loss to USC did not matter as it was viewed as an exhibition game. Despite the fact that Tennessee was unscored upon in all the games that mattered that season, they still did not win the national title in any poll. A travesty on par with Manning not winning the Heisman.

The offense UCLA rolled onto the field that night was horrible and the great UT defense allowed to go 70 yards in a little over a minute. That was pathetic!

PV you need to learn to separate the much needed and long overdue firing of Fulmer and the hiring of Kiffin. Yes UT has a jackleg of an AD but it is irrelevant when it came to the last few years of the Fulmer era. The argument to keep Fulmer solely because Hambone would screw up the next hire is defeatist at best.
