Law to the proud, Grace to the humble.

The problem with discussion of the Arizona law is that the most of those in favor of the law are too damn stupid they can't discuss the particulars.
Really what a convenient observation. Either the people in favor of it are racist or stupid, hmmmm. Interesting. Let us examine the particulars...The law basically says that law enforcement are supposed to enforce the law...it basically MIRRORS the federal laws, except it empowers local law enforcement to enforce the laws because the federal law enforcement are not. The law asks that upon any official interaction between a law officer and an individual during the normal course of investigating a crime, the officer can ask for identification...which it does anyway, to EVERYONE when a police officer stops you they ask for identification to determine who exactly YOU are...whether or not you are actually guilty of anything, this is normal procedure...an officer has the right to determine who an individual is, so they can be informed as to the situation and make judgment calls based on the information they learn during that initial interaction. This then results in further investigation, if you have warrants or outstanding violations it is considered...if you break OTHER laws an officer has to take that into consideration as to how to handle best the current situation...being illegal is one of those criteria that should be evaluated...IF an individual has adequate identification documentation, drivers license, state ID, etc. that is enough to prove citizenship...and to allow the officers to check for other crimes and violations wants and warrants. NO-ONE is being discriminated against, no-one is being treated any different, what is happening is the local law enforcement is simply being given the power to act on the same information they would be asking for anyway, and using that to enforce an already standing law that initially was supposed to be a federal responsibility.

I think the real problem with discussing the Arizona law is that liberals do not want to actually discuss the specifics, they just want to call people stupid, and racist so they do not have to actually discuss them.

The problem is that the Fed does not require legal aliens under most cases from Mexico to have or carry documentation if they are the spouse or the children of documented legal workers with Visa's. Maybe Arizona should come up with a registration process for legal aliens in their STATE!! Let them pay the bill if they are so damn gung ho for them to have documentation......

I know just a tad about the law and that is not true. Try going to the Goden Gallon and buying a case of beer and see if you are asked for ID or go 100 mph down I-24 or I-75 and tell the Trooper that pulls you over for breaking the law you are not required to be DOCUMENTED to drive a vehicle and report back to us on your experience.

boy if there is one thing PV is good at it's bureaucratic mumbo jumbo speak. some guys live for that stuff apparently, where white isn't white and black isn't black.  same with right and wrong- everything's murky. and everything has to be discussed in "fine print speak."

i thought i was sitting at a desk in a chair. but apparently it's more complicated than that. everything is.

If Obama can ignore a judge's ruling on an oil moratorium in the gulf, why can't the Arizona Governor ignore a judge's ruling on the AZ immigration law?

If certain immigrants can ignore our FEDERAL immigration laws, why do any immigrants follow them?

Well, you should understand the offensive elements before calling other people ignorant.

What has people upset is it MANDATES that law enforcement check if they have some suspicion - "IN THE ENFORCEMENT OF ANY OTHER LAW OR ORDINANCE OF A COUNTY, CITY OR TOWN OR THIS STATE" "...a reasonable attempt SHALL be made."   And if they can't verify legal status on the spot, law enforcement is REQUIRED to hold them until they can verify their status

Further, if a local government doesn't verify people enough, citizens can sue to force the government to start checking those papers.

And this applies to anything.  Littering, jay walking, not having your lawn at the right height, etc.  It's not just speeding or armed robbery, where presumably they already do and have forever checked immigration status, but any "ordinance" like not picking up after your dog.  What it allows is for law enforcement to stop someone for pretty much anything, and I'd guess if you followed me around last weekend, I broke an ordinance against jay walking a couple dozen times, and then require an ID or go to jail.

Maybe you agree, or not, but that is the issue and what's new.  The law enforcement folks in AZ and TN and GA and Alaska already CAN check the legal status of anyone arrested for any crime.
