Rifqa Bary is still without the immigration status long promised by her legal team. Let's pray the judge rules in her favor tomorrow and she avoids deportation.

The judge rejected a request from Rifqa's parents to order her to receive medical treatment for uterine cancer. Rifqa (and her lawyers) insist she is cancer free after undergoing surgery and chemotherapy. Rifqa's lawyer Kort Gatterdam said that "multiple surgeries and chemotherapy" left her weak and sick.

Ohio judge delays ruling in Christian runaway case AP

COLUMBUS, Ohio — An Ohio juvenile court judge says she'll issue a decision Thursday in the case of a runaway Christian convert at odds with her Muslim parents and trying to avoid deportation.

The judge Wednesday told attorneys for 17-year-old Rifqa Bary and her parents to submit arguments before the court rules on whether Bary, an illegal immigrant from Sri Lanka, can receive special immigration status allowing her to stay in the U.S. Bary's attorneys say the girl is battling uterine cancer.

Rifqa Bary, the teenage girl who fled to Florida from her Ohio home in fear for her life after her Muslim parents discovered her conversion to Christianity, has just turned eighteen. Her life is now hers, and her Florida and Ohio lawyers have embarked upon an unseemly victory dance to spin their appalling and failed legal strategy. I have stood silently by watching this, but now they are spinning their failure into a fundraising circus and smearing me and my colleagues, and that cannot stand.

Now that Rifqa has turned eighteen, one of her lawyers, Kort Gatterdam, has done an interview with Tom Trento, an activist with the Florida Security Council. Trento has in turn sent around an e-mail raising funds on the name of Rifqa Bary and excoriating "so many friendly 'arm-chair' lawyers and bloggers who so viciously attacked their own side." By "arm-chair lawyers," Trento means my associate, the attorney John Jay, and by bloggers, he means me. Pot, meet kettle.

If I had to sum the interview in four words, they'd be mighta, cudda, wudda, and shudda. Wish I hadda.

The failed legal strategy of Rifqa's Florida attorney John Stemberger and his Ohio associate Gatterdam refused to address the issue of Rifqa's death threat, or the issues of Islamic apostasy and honor killing -- the only things that gave credibility to Rifqa's claim that her father had threatened to kill her. Their strategy also enabled the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) and other Islamic supremacists to manipulate the legal process and deny Rifqa her civil rights, isolating her from her closest friends.

Rifqa has now turned eighteen, and her immigration status is still in doubt.

Some good news.

http://www.christianpost.com/article/20100907/runaway-christian-convert-gains-legal-us-residency/index.html

Quote
A lawyer for a runaway Christian convert from Ohio says the 18-year-old Sri Lanka native has gained permanent residency in the United States.

Kort Gatterdam reported Tuesday that Rifqa Bary received her permanent residency card last week and can apply for citizenship in five years.

In the meantime, Bary can start applying for a driver's license, college scholarships, and Medicaid coverage.

News of Bary’s change of status comes one month after her 18th birthday effectively put an end to a legal battle between her and her Muslim parents.

Bary was thrust into the public eye last year after she ran away from home in fear that her conversion to Christianity would cost her her life.

Bary claimed that her father had told her, "If you have this Jesus in your heart, you are dead to me!" and also added some time later, "I will kill you!"

In many Muslim societies, women who stray from strict cultural upbringings are often accused of bringing dishonor upon the family and are cast out or even killed.

Bary’s father, Mohamed Bary, however, has vehemently denied ever threatening to kill his daughter for converting to Christianity and accuses the pastors she stayed with in Florida of “brainwashing” his daughter into believing she was in danger of an "honor killing."

Since their daughter ran away from home, the Barys have been fighting to regain custody of her.

After turning 18, however, Bary was released from Ohio state custody.

Though it was not announced where Bary would be living, her attorney, Gatterdam, said she plans to "continue to preach the gospel to anyone who wants to hear it, as she heard it five years ago."

Gatterdam also said Bary loves and forgives her parents but still doesn't feel safe with them.

According to reports, the attorney said reunification would not be possible until Bary's parents admit to past abuse, which he believes caused Bary to seek love and acceptance in Christ.

We have some rather stunning and almost unbelievable news that we need to report. Late last week, we were attacked and the code of our FFPC website at FLFamily.org was completely disabled and destroyed by a radical Muslim hacker.

(…)

However, I have learned that when you oppose radical Islam, there is a price…

Last Monday, the lawyer who represented Rifqa’s parents in Ohio – who claims to be a “Muslim scholar” – filed a $10 million lawsuit against me personally in Federal Court alleging “emotional distress” and “damage to reputation” for my some of my comments on one of the Fox News interviews. This same lawyer has filed multiple grievances against me with the Florida Bar, trying to have me disbarred or disciplined as an attorney.

In addition to all of this, last Friday a Muslim hacker somehow gained access to our FFPC website, (it appears through the server or some older code) and disabled the entire back-end controls on the site, erased most of the code, disabled the blog and left an obscene message on the events page explaining in broken English who he was and why he was hacking the site. Our web experts tell us that the seven-year-old site, which has served us well, is completely unusable and needs to be replaced.
