The Recovery Summer gets rowdy:

A crowd of people hoping to get federal housing assistance became unruly Wednesday morning with reports of fights breaking out in the crowd.

Thousands of people were lined up at the Tri-Cities Plaza shopping center, hoping to apply for a voucher from the East Point Housing Authority that will give them a discount on their rent.

Sad, sad sad.  The desperation is palpable.  Just think, this hysteria was over just APPLICATIONS for a waiting list.  Do you think most of them realized that.

It's going to only get worse until we're all reduced to this:
Crowded bird feeder.

That was my reaction too.  People are hurting.  It looks like most of the applicants were black, a population that has an unemployment rate of over 20%.

I am not sure people appreciate what a social safety net contributes to social stability and safety.  Desperate people who can't eat or afford a place to live do desperate things.  I don't know about others, but near me there have been many recent reports of broad daylight home robberies.  I guess I'm not sure what folks who don't believe in unemployment benefits or food stamps or school lunches think will happen when people literally run out of money to feed their kids and keep a roof over their head.

there are jobs. but some people are too lazy or arrogant to take an entry level job, work their asses off, and rise up thru the ranks.

go to mickey d's, get a paper route, cut the cable and stop smoking and drinking beer. eat rice and beans and peanut butter. sell all your sh!t. this idea that there is NOTHING we can do short of government handouts is really offensive. but i'm past being offended. i'm gonna vote. and so are millions of others.

i have zero sympathy unless there is physical injury or severe illness.  we call poverty what 99% of the world would call living in luxury.

The parents should be jailed. Period. At least we know they weren't gay since the blacks cannot STAND dirty butt.

It's really unbelievable that at a time of record unemployment, with five people looking for every job, that you think all those folks are just lazy.  You know, during the last period where we had unemployment this persistent and this high, people starved.  We didn't have food stamps in the 1930s.  They lived in the streets, surrendered their children to orphanages, and ate what they could at soup kitchens.  You think they were lazy too, or was it different then because the pictures of the lines were full of white people.

As PV points out, many of them are disabled, mentally and/or physically.  Others are uneducated, unqualified for any position other than a clerk or McD minimum wage, and even those jobs aren't available.  A group I volunteer for requires every person to look every day for a job.  Just two years ago, sure, a job in a fast food joint was ALWAYS there.  Now I am working with a guy 55 or so with a physical disability but no mental handicap at all, he just CANNOT do manual labor, and there is NOTHING for him.  Others (young guys, 25 or so) are putting in at every fast food joint that they can get to in town and still can't find work for months at a time.  And even if they could, that doesn't support kids, family, making $8 an hour part time, since they won't allow full time since that comes with benefits.  They'd still need assistance for rent or food, just to get by, and forget about a car or health care.

And homeless and living on handouts is poverty everywhere in the world, and that's what a lot of folks right here face.  We don't see them because as the richest country on the planet, we generally take care of them and prevent them from having their kids stand on the side of the road begging for food.  If you cut that out, you'll see begging just like any developing and third world country.  Wouldn't it be GREAT!

It's posts like this where I can't figure out if you're really that big of a hateful a** or just want to bait the rest of us.  I'll assume it's the latter and not comment.

NC... further to your comments.  How long do you think it will be before we start seeing images like this again in the streets of America?

2011? 2012???

"It's really unbelievable that at a time of record unemployment, with five people looking for every job, that you think all those folks are just lazy."

Unless they are injured or mentally ill (and gay is a mental illness but get a job homo) then that is EXACTLY what i think.

"You know, during the last period where we had unemployment this persistent and this high, people starved.  We didn't have food stamps in the 1930s.  They lived in the streets, surrendered their children to orphanages, and ate what they could at soup kitchens.  You think they were lazy too, or was it different then because the pictures of the lines were full of white people."

This is the opposite of the 1930s. What we have today is a class of people who were groomed to depend on government by the black establishment, only to have government fail, as it always does.

"As PV points out, many of them are disabled, mentally and/or physically."

We have a safety net. We always have and we always will. Think these people are ALL making the most of their free government money, only buying food, not gaming the system, no expensive habits like smoking drinking or illegal drugs, etc? I don't.

"Others are uneducated, unqualified for any position other than a clerk or McD minimum wage,"

Their establishment has taught them for years that it's Whitey's fault and that an education is uncool. Is that my fault? My dad's? Wait, maybe it's my 5 month old son's fault. Help me out here.

"and even those jobs aren't available."

A LIE. I live in Queens. Not exactly Malibu. The local Mickey's has a help wanted sign. If here then other places too, I'm certain. I will address the McJobs thing again in a moment.

"A group I volunteer for requires every person to look every day for a job."

Do you give them guidance or turn them loose like a pack of dogs and say good luck? I think a lot of these helper groups simply further the victimization complex- you are a great example- or sit and pout/whine/moan how "the republicans did this to our people" even though liberals have run all these large cities for decades.

"Just two years ago, sure, a job in a fast food joint was ALWAYS there.  Now I am working with a guy 55 or so with a physical disability but no mental handicap at all, he just CANNOT do manual labor, and there is NOTHING for him."

Again, a defeatist LIE. Keep looking, or give up and whine- what serves this person better? But it's not about that. It's about what makes YOU feel better. You LOVE having a villain to rally against. It's the liberal way. Demonize and blame so that NO ONE EVER has to take personal responsibility for his or her choices. It's always about what others did, or didn't do. Every one of those people in Atlanta is a VICTIM. And we haven't done enough, even though we are paying more taxes than ever, we have had our way of life (keeping more of what we earn) , our culture (yes the Bible), and our values (also the Bible) destroyed in the popular media, which GLORIFIES all of the rap and gangsta and other sh!t that these people embrace.

"Others (young guys, 25 or so) are putting in at every fast food joint that they can get to in town and still can't find work for months at a time.  And even if they could, that doesn't support kids, family, making $8 an hour part time, since they won't allow full time since that comes with benefits.  They'd still need assistance for rent or food, just to get by, and forget about a car or health care."

We have a culture that is reaping what it sowed. Have unprotected sex with multiple women. No problem. Don't get an education or even finish high school, no problem. Go into an interview with multiple earrings, tattoos that are openly exposed, names like Shamiquanaynay, pronunciations like, "I wanna axe you sumthin," dress like sh!t for the interview, look like a thug, be disrespectful, cause in the end it's not your fault see. You are a victim. We need reparations and MORE government control over our economy and the people who produce.

And who said a car is a right? And go to the emergency room and you'll get treated. And believe me, I see the EBT'ers here. They are MASTERS: Ding Dongs and cheetoes with the EBT, and beer and cigs with the cash. And who knows where they get it.

"And homeless and living on handouts is poverty everywhere in the world,"

Friend, that is never going away, no matter what legislation you pass. There are some who prefer that lifestyle.

"and that's what a lot of folks right here face.  We don't see them because as the richest country on the planet, we generally take care of them and prevent them from having their kids stand on the side of the road begging for food.  If you cut that out, you'll see begging just like any developing and third world country.  Wouldn't it be GREAT!"

Again, safety net? No problem. But dude, I got news for you: WE'RE OUT OF MONEY. The middle class is DONE. We cannot spend on this social bullsh!t anymore. It ain't working.

November can't get here fast enough.

Um, I'm serious. If you take your baby out in that heat you are committing a crime in my view.

I actually have kids that are biologically mine, and I pay taxes and stuff so maybe I'm in the minority here.

this really is the failure of the civil rights movement- you simply cannot legislate laziness out of existence. it's not just these people who bought in, their parents did too.

Thanks liberals.
