YOU MUST ZELL

GRAY:
Just in case you weren't entirely sure that the civil rights movement killed the U.S. Constitution and the right of free association it contained, this prosecution should serve as sufficient evidence. It's not your business, my business, or the government's business why someone chooses to sell or not sell anything to anyone. I'd like to see HUD go whole hog on this and declare that in the interest of expanding black homeownership, all purchase offers by blacks must be accepted at any price. Whether the home is listed for sale or not. Now that the principle of the free market in housing has been abandoned, there's no reason not to set the parameters wherever the HUD bureaucrats think best.

Rand Paul agrees with the author.  Whose concern is it if a private business won't serve blacks or let blacks eat at the counter, use their bathrooms, the water fountains, sit near whitey in a movie theater instead of in the balcony or a special "ni**er" section, or doesn't want a ni**er family to ruin the neighborhood.

This is the worship of "free" markets taken to a ridiculous level.

It's sad that nonsense like that is what passes for "conservative" analysis these days.  No one is proposing that blacks get PREFERENTIAL treatment on a home sale, just that racists aren't allowed to refuse a sale based on race.  There is a mountain of a difference.  If the author thinks that there should be no penalty for refusing a legitimate offer based only on race, then the guy should argue that, instead of attacking a straw man.  But it is easier to attack a straw man, I suppose than engage in a real discussion about race and whether racism in the marketplace should be allowed out of some worship of private property.

Unless he said, "no ni@@er" than how you gonna PROVE it was a race based decision? Then again, "no ni@@er" sounds like half the black records out there. So even then it could be argued as a term of endearment.

also, we are talking about the selling of private property aren't we?

Yeah, and we could be talking about serving food in a private restaurant, selling movie tickets in a private theater, any private employer making job offers.  What's the point.  That racism should be allowed if we value private property.

It's pretty damn easy to say that when you're not the race being discriminated against.  You'd have made a good Klansman back in the day.  You have the attitude and the bogus justification down pat.

You were defending, I thought, or passing along without comment, a man's right to refuse to sell to a black.  Am I supposed to give the guy, or you, credit for not being a racist because instead of the slur, he uses darkey or black and not the N word?  The effect of the act is the same, I'd think being honest about the feeling is better than couching the racism in some flowery term with the same result.

And we don't know it was racist, just a guy working with the seller testifying under oath who said he didn't want to sell to an "african american."
