This is such a great story. The thing that is so encouraging about it is that it bubbles up from the grass roots despite the liberal egghead ubiquitous dictum being purveyed in the dominant liberal media industrial complex that we all must support the president on the issue and if you do not you are simply a biggoted hateful zenophobe and a "bitter clinger". The pseudo moral superority of those on the extreme left as it relates to this issue is simply disgusting. Granted, I see this issue as a minor issue given that the problems our nation faces as the result of the last 20 months of governance and we have a State department and Administration whistling past the graveyard as Islamoterrorist in Iran being on the verge of joining the nuclear club. Also, I will not go into the economic woes and skyrocketing unemployment that is gripping our republic as a result of the out-of-control debt as a result of the spending of the congress and the president and the China-debt Jobs Stimulus bill.    Again, I will concede the building of the victory mosque is not the most pressing issue our nation faces even though it arouses great passion from within.

Nevertheless, the president has thrust the issue to the fore creating a political football that is being kicked around daily in our national dialogue whether we like it or not. The issue has been instructive in the sense it has shown the nation just how out of touch this administration is in relation to the American people. I don't see it as a GOPer or Democrat issue. Rather, it is an American issue. Do the Islamoterrorist have a right to build a victory mosque at ground zero if they own or lease the property and they pass the required local government regulations to build? The answer is a resounding yes. The extreme left has attempted to frame this question as the issue in the their typical trait of demagoguery. Will they get it built? Well judging from this story it looks like they are going to need to import construction workers to get it done.

A growing number of New York construction workers are vowing not to work on the mosque planned near Ground Zero.

"It's a very touchy thing because they want to do this on sacred ground," said Dave Kaiser, 38, a blaster who is working to rebuild the World Trade Center site.

"I wouldn't work there, especially after I found out about what the imam said about U.S. policy being responsible for 9/11," Kaiser said.

The grassroots movement is gaining momentum on the Internet. One construction worker created the "Hard Hat Pledge" on his blog and asked others to vow not to work on the project if it stays on Park Place.

Well, the imam agrees with Glenn Beck and Ron Paul, among other terrorist lovers.

It's so sad to see the propaganda program by the right wing actually work.

I know you choose to see all through the prism of left and right but the facts are the president kicked this political football off with his comments at the White House's Muslim Ramadan feast of Iftar celebration (I hope I spelled this Muslim feast celebration correctly) last Friday. I agree with you about the propaganda angle. You nailed it spot on. However you miss the boat entirely if you see this as a right left issue. This is an issue of priorities in governance (not priorities in ruling from the left).  It would appear the president's outspoken support of the mosque construction at ground zero has lead to much of this propaganda. However, although political interesting, this issue is by no means the most pressing problem facing our republic. That is why it was so curious the president would embark on such a crusade given the state of the economy , skyrocketing unemployment and home foreclosures, the Afghan war, and the nightmare to world peace the Iranians pose should they join the nuclear club. How about some priorities White House? I know this sort of thing takes our mind off these other more vexing issues and divides the nation but is it prudent to be highlighting this mosque at ground zero as a priority of the administration? Again, it is not a right or left issue but rather it is a prudence in leadership issue we are facing.

Here are the comments.  You're an idiot.

Now, we must all recognize and respect the sensitivities surrounding the development of Lower Manhattan. The 9/11 attacks were a deeply traumatic event for our country. And the pain and the experience of suffering by those who lost loved ones is just unimaginable. So I understand the emotions that this issue engenders. And Ground Zero is, indeed, hallowed ground.

But let me be clear. As a citizen, and as president, I believe that Muslims have the same right to practice their religion as everyone else in this country. (Applause.) And that includes the right to build a place of worship and a community center on private property in Lower Manhattan, in accordance with local laws and ordinances. This is America. And our commitment to religious freedom must be unshakable. The principle that people of all faiths are welcome in this country and that they will not be treated differently by their government is essential to who we are. The writ of the Founders must endure.

We must never forget those who we lost so tragically on 9/11, and we must always honor those who led the response to that attack -- from the firefighters who charged up smoke-filled staircases, to our troops who are serving in Afghanistan today. And let us also remember who we're fighting against, and what we're fighting for. Our enemies respect no religious freedom. Al-Qaeda's cause is not Islam -- it's a gross distortion of Islam. These are not religious leaders -- they're terrorists who murder innocent men and women and children. In fact, al-Qaeda has killed more Muslims than people of any other religion -- and that list of victims includes innocent Muslims who were killed on 9/11.

So that's who we're fighting against. And the reason that we will win this fight is not simply the strength of our arms -- it is the strength of our values. The democracy that we uphold. The freedoms that we cherish. The laws that we apply without regard to race, or religion, or wealth, or status. Our capacity to show not merely tolerance, but respect towards those who are different from us -- and that way of life, that quintessentially American creed, stands in stark contrast to the nihilism of those who attacked us on that September morning, and who continue to plot against us today.

In my inaugural address I said that our patchwork heritage is a strength, not a weakness. We are a nation of Christians and Muslims, Jews and Hindus -- and non-believers. We are shaped by every language and every culture, drawn from every end of this Earth. And that diversity can bring difficult debates. This is not unique to our time. Past eras have seen controversies about the construction of synagogues or Catholic churches. But time and again, the American people have demonstrated that we can work through these issues, and stay true to our core values, and emerge stronger for it. So it must be -- and will be -- today

Our resident liberal name caller full of hateful vengeance and contempt strikes yet again. Can't you think up a better pejorative than that for more. Like your posts that pejorative is growing rather stale. What I care about are people in high places trying to effect a euro socialist hades upon or great nation.

Just  ,

The proposed mosque is NOT at ground zero. You're entitled to your opinion, but not your own facts.
