I was impressed with the Gamecocks last night, empty seats or not.  Garcia looked good and the young backup is going to be a better QB.  I thought the defense played well also.  Don't believe this will be Coach Spurrier's last year like some want.  Besides he is not ready to quit because he loves coaching too much.

Gus...

Here's a quote from Coach Spurrier last night.  Sounds like he enjoys this team.

For the first time in six years at USC, Spurrier could do that on Thursday. His gripe?

"I was thinking for the first time we might score 50, but we couldn't quite do it," he sighed. "I think we need to score 50 sometime if we can, but we couldn't do it tonight."

Hey Charleston:

I'll be in attendance with 5 other of Bama's finest for the Bama/SC game. Any local spots I should catch? (especially food.)

If you like fine dining, go to Garibaldi's in 5 points for a dinner on Friday night.  Great menu and food.  The owner of the company I work for use to fly in from Manhatten and we would dine there.  He said their food, especially the sea bass and tuna, was better than his favorite resteraunts in Manhatten.  Make a reservation.  It is near campus and you will intermingle with the students on the outside walking to their favorite watering holes.

Other than that, if you like chicken wings and other sandwiches, check out Wild Wings in the Vista.

For a great hamburger, check out Rockaways on Rosewood drive, not too far from the campus.  George W Bush stopped in with the secret service during his first campaign for president and ate his famous Rockaway Burger.  This is also a pub and if Pretty Paul (owner) likes you, he may give you a free shot of Crown Royal.  He use to do that when mini bottles were legal to random patrons.  If you go there ask for Pretty Paul and tell him the Cool Breeze told you to come by.  Cool Breeze use to be his bouncer.

I have done the Rockaways and the Garibaldi's both are great choices. You have to stop at Maurice's for some South Carolina BBQ. It has sweet mustard base sauce. I am not that fond of it but if you go to SC you have to try it, nothing says SC better than Maurice's.

One real close to campus and all over Columbia.
