Going JUCO.

http://www.govolsxtra.com/news/2011/apr/28/basketball-signee-chris-jones-heads-junior-college/

New Vols coach Cuonzo Martin said Thursday morning that the possibility of Jones going to a junior college had been discussed, but he had to hear it for himself that Jones was not likely coming to play in Knoxville this season.

We've done everything we can to encourage Chris to be successful in high school,'' said Martin, who met with Jones and Johnson earlier this month in Memphis. “We wish him the best, and we would love to have him here if he gets it down the stretch.

“We'll continue to recruit Chris if he ends up in the junior college ranks.''

IOW, Coach Martin recognizes you just can't fix stupid.  Would that other coaches should follow his lead.

UT had its BB Banquet minus Pearl and Press. Interesting!! All But Hops was in attendance. My Dad joked to me that it is a funny thing that with Pearl gone and Hops Paycheck cut off he would not bother to come in and attend. They say he is busy with the NBA camp but IMO he could have made it in and the UTAD would have made accomadations for him to be present if he wanted to be here. The rumors of S Pearl hurting last years chemistry were absurd, he actually knew how to run the offense. I heard that Hops was the chemistry problem and his fellow team mates hated his guts. I understand it is almost a lock that T Harris returns next year. I also heard that Hall and Swiper Boy have rolled up their sleaves and gone to work. I dont know how good the PG is that we signed but if he can cotribute and Golden improves and we are not running that silly circle drill Pearl called an offense that got guys side line 3 point jump shots from the corner we might be all right.

I think they will be, Plumber.
Mcrae has impressed coach Martin so far.
Hall and Swiper are probably happy about the change.

McRae can hit the mid range jumper plus he can dribble drive in the crease both sides of the free throw line. Can he defend is the question. I say yes. Swiper Boy had strings on his ankles and was working on his back to the basket during his individual workouts. The guy actually has a fair jump shot if he is in a structured offense. Hall can be very productive in the paint on offense but we need somebody to step up on defense in the paint.

Nice update.  I don't know the new coach and haven't talked to anyone that does but the reputation for being tough doesn't seem to fit Hopson.

He was a softer less talented version of Yarbrough. Hopson would get killed in the NBA. He might be too soft to play in the French league.

I didn't know but I always assumed the S. Pearl was the one that caused the chemistry problems last year. Whatever it was - there was a huge problem.

Griff said today that he thought TH was gone. My "sources" say he probably stays because he will be out of the top 20 as far as a draft pick. We shall see. If Hops was smart he would return.

I'm ready for the steaming hot Rocky Top League.

McRae schooled Scotty at the RTL last year.

yea Scotty. Take your all SEC game and career double figure points and get outta a here. Besides, if you come back you will finish as a top 7 all time scorer at UT. We do not need all that production around here.

Sincerely,

Mike Hamilton and the Vocal Minority
