Poe's Law applies to the fundamentalist Christians who want to deprive children of the fun of being a kid on Halloween. For those of you not familiar with it, Poe's Law states "without a clear indication of the author's intent, it is difficult or impossible to tell the difference between sincere extremism and an exaggerated parody of extremism." In other words, when you see an example of religious extremism and compare it to a parody of the extremism, you can't tell the difference.

Jimmy Kimmel nails these no-fun fundamentalists for the nutbags they are. This is funny as hell (pun intended  ).

Okay, now that you've seen the parody, check out the actual video of Jesus Ween. This is not a joke. These people are serious.

Poe's Law is dead on. I honestly can't tell the difference between a parody of religious extremism and the actual religious extremism.

Don't think we do not know the origins of Halloween. The fact is the world as we know it celebrates effigy's of demons and evil spirits which many Christians don't like.

We are not against a child having candy but there is more to life than candy or demonic, death, evil costumes.

All we are saying is that any Christian Family that shares our view that 80% of Halloween has become a celebration of demonic images and expression has an alternative for their kids and young ones.

It's a FREE World and the choices are abundant. We decide on Jesus Ween ...

We cannot impose Jesus Ween on the entire world.

Parody of religious extremism or actual religious extremism???

Another example of extremists that take away from the real message.

For my kids and most kids, Halloween is about dressing up and getting candy. If any kid gets into the darker side of Halloween (witches, spirits, etc), they either had no good parental guideance or are in families that already believe in those things. I'd say the number of kids that get into paganism and things like because of Halloween is very small. It's a good thing to teach our kids what is right and wrong and what is pretend (dressing up for Halloween).

For the older kids and adults that get into that, again I'd say the numbers are low if they strictly got into it from Halloween. If they did, they are a lost soul that went looking in the wrong direction for guidance in life, much like the Occupy Wall Street people are doing. Halloween is so far removed from what it was many, many years ago, there is no comparison.

The October 31st holiday that we today know as Halloween has strong roots in paganism and is closely connected with worship of the Enemy of this world, Satan. It is a holiday that generally glorifies the dark things of this world, rather than the light of Jesus Christ, The Truth.

Have you noticed how costumes and masks are getting generally more bloody, gory, and depraved each year? Unfortunately, the gruesome and grotesque and the occult are increasingly glorified in American society, not only on Halloween, but throughout the year in horror movies and in television programs.

My family does not celebrate it or participate in it. We do not believe that our children are “missing out,” and neither do they. Other days are used for costumes and parties. Happily, all of our children have accepted Jesus Christ as their personal Savior. We have found that Halloween provides an excellent time to remind our children that, as Christians, we are different, and not of this world (Heb. 11:13-16; 1 Pet. 2:11).

What about church “Harvest Festivals” held on October 31? Although we understand the rational and good intentions behind them, we don't think they are the best approach. Our family tends to agree with the author of an article called " Are 'Harvest Parties' for Christians?" (written by a self-avowed former witch and now active Christian). Harvest parties on October 31 tend to assume that "our children need something to take the place of Halloween, since they won't be participating in the secular and pagan celebrations. It suggests our kids are missing out on something. And indeed they are, if we allow them to spend Halloween in celebration." There are better things to do on Halloween than partying.

Also, we need to teach our children that "the fight isn't against occultists, non-Christians, Christians who feel differently than we about Halloween, or institutions that promote Halloween, but" "against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this age, against spiritual hosts of wickedness in the heavenly places" (Ephesians 6:12, NKJV).

Exactly.

Halloween is harmless fun for kids, despite what any religious fanatics (and that's not just Christianity I'm referring to; Islam and others have the same extremists) want to think of it in their warped imaginations.

MRM, you are a voice of reason on the right, which is a rare thing these days.

If people are offended by many of the things associated with Halloween these days, or even the pagan roots some say it springs from, who are you to judge them, or belittle them for that freedom of choice and opinion? The real question here is do people who do not desire to be part of Halloween "miss out " on anything? IF all they are missing out on is dressing up and having fun I say that's not much to miss out on, we "dress up" and have fun on other occasions like Christmas, St. Patrick's Day (what about all that drinking on that day?)...all kinds of holidays and seasons. So is there anything wrong with people not participating in Halloween, or seeking to share their views of the holiday? NO not at all, and MY family does celebrate Halloween, and dress up and have fun. I will not belittle pothers who do not though. I find it very amusing that the most judgmental and egotistical person here is precisely the one who judges others based on their own standard of right and wrong, and has no problems calling people who disagree with him childish names or worse.

There is plenty to be offended by in the occult, and bloody gore and violence that passes as good "clean" fun these days on Halloween. The very same people who have such a big problem with a cartoon coyote falling off a cliff or getting hit by a train have no problem with their child walking a round with a fake knife protruding from his head, and blood and guts hanging from his torso.

The most amusing things is when people speak of Halloween and paganism and witchcraft and magic, they often times forget the other Christian roots of the holiday as well. Even though it was originally a pagan holiday from the Celts and was a festival where the spirits of the dead would walk with the living, this included the evil spirits they believed in as well. When Rome concurred the region they added to the festival and incorporated it into their own traditions. After Rome became Christian, in the 800s All saints day was moved from May to November 1st, and the night before became all hallows eve, or HOLY EVENING...which was to commemorate the Saints. This is the HOLIDAY (HOLY DAY) we celebrate today as Halloween.

Halloween is a tremendous opportunity for us to teach our kids about the HISTORY of Christianity, the Saints who have come before us, and who have died...and ultimately Christ who is the source and foundation. Yes we can acknowledge the GOOD and even point out the bad, if people are offended by blood and gore and violence, good for them.... NO ONE should belittle others for being offended by vile wickedness, least of all a so called atheist who proves time and again that his condemnation and judgment of others and their beliefs, traditions, history and opinions knows no bounds.
