For the sake of the program. An NC State loss on national TV would set the program back further than where Fat Phil put it.

Phillip did not set the program back, Hambones blundering did that all by himself.

"Phillip did not set the program back"

-He most certainly set UT back. He left the program in shambles when he was fired because he hadn't recruited well for several years. He left the program in far worse shape than when he inherited it.

-You've got to be kidding. Players didn't host a BBQ, knowing full well it was an NCAA violation and then lie about it when questioned. Bruce Pearl did that and brought down the very basketball program he had created. Pearl, for the good he did at UT, got everything he deserved and will be lucky to ever coach again at a 1-A program.

Fulmer's recruiting dropped off his last 5 years. Case in point 2002 TN ranked #2 by Rivals, 18 in 2003, 11th in 2004, 4th in 2005, 23rd in 2006, 3rd in 2007, 35th in 2008, that is enough talent on paper to at least win 7-9 games over the last 3 years. Lane's first year he inherited 2 1st rounders and 5 other kids drafted into the NFL, but after that we have nose dived and the talent just has not been there and if you look back over the classes enough talent should have been on campus to bring home at least 7 games the last 2 years. The reality is the turnovers and the way they have been handled by the AD created an environment where UT lost at least 40 or more players since the day Fulmer was fired. The 2009 class is a total damn bust with nothing to show for it other than 3-4 contributors coming into 2012. We are living off freshmen and sophomores and the sad thing about it is that all they know is LOSING, they don't know how to win.....

You idiots still do not get it. They had a top 3 class committed. They lost 44 kids in one year that where players (many went on to great careers elsewhere) or to decommits. 44!!!! That is almost 2 recruiting classes. That happened after that idiot Hammy started firing the best coaches in their sport in UT history. AFTER!!!!!!  Layne had 8 NFL players handed to him and 4 of the 5 OL man played some in the NFL. Many are having a big impact. Talent was there but Layne ran them off or lost them because he is a clown. I guess all those 10 win seasons and clock work trips to Atlanta have many of you still in denial.

Philip set this program back by being 152-52, 2 outright SEC titles, 7 SEC East titles (two tied), 9.5 wins per year in an 11 game season, 105K per game, National relevance for a mediocre program with a big stadium. Really setting them back

Most of you that are say 36 or younger think that was UT football. Not close. Pre Hall of Famer it was a mediocre deal. Now, get back to supporting your below 500 squads and keep blaming the most successful coaches in their sports in UT history.....dumbasses!!

Never though I would see a day where Tenn fans would pick NC State over the big Orange in a football game played in Atlanta. If Tenn loses to State they not only continue to lose their foothold to the Atlanta recruiting pipeline but will most likely lose their Head Coach. Lose to State and Dooley is a goner, this will appease a desperate fanbase that has been disillusioned since Fat Phil lost to Wyoming at home and hid behind Da Vicky in that creepy weepy last press conference.

ACC Hawk, Michigan State will be Kirk Cousinsless. Both BSU and MSU will be breaking in new starting QB's.

The problem was Pearl's BBQ IQ, not the player's BB IQ.

ACC he did leave the program in a mess after he was fired. It was definitely headed in the wrong direction for sure.

Losing to an ACC team has been the norm under the old regime and the new. UT lost consecutive bowl games to the ACC recently. A regular season loss wouldn't be that shocking in my opinion based on the current state of affairs their program is in.
