The roided up hobbit had his chance, at home no less. OK St has a worse loss than the Updykes but much better wins. I think Bamas best win was Arkansas and Ark is a big time paper tiger their best win was a .500 Texas A&M. Bottom line is Bama didn't win division didn't win conference and looking back didn't really beat anybody.

I am not being a SEC homer but each team had one loss and OSU's loss was much worse.

Now, the question is who are the two best teams. I haven't heard one person say they thought OSU could beat Alabama. Bama's defense would stone them.

I promise to go back to bashing Bama after this post but if they don't get to play LSU they are getting hosed big time. They did lose at home but the field goal kicker was a mess and I thought that they looked like a better team than LSU. I know you will say scoreboard and that is true but Bama is a much better team than OSU.

I am concerned the win over Oklahoma will give the voters who have a anti-SEC bias a reason to vote against a re-match. BTW, a Oklahoma team that was over-rated and had gotten worse as the season went on. Plus, they looked like UT at KY and just didn't play that hard.

DV

PS If LSU wins a re-match they should go down as one of the all time great teams.

Really?

They beat Auburn (7-5).

They beat South Carolina (10-2).

I like Oklahoma State. Alabama is Tennessee's biggest rival and I bleed orange. I don't like to say this, but Alabama deserves to play for the national championship. Oklahoma State lost to IOWA STATE. Alabama's schedule was far more difficult than OSU's. Their only loss was to the other team playing for the title. Hopefully, one day we will have a playoff where teams like Oklahoma State can settle the argument on the field.

I can understand both points of view. The bad loss to Iowa St has to be taken into consideration. On the other hand, most all of the other stats show OK st ahead (more 'good' wins, etc.)

Regardless, no one cares what an ACC fan thinks, or for that matter what an SEC fan thinks. It all goes down tonight by 8:15.

If Bama gets in, I'll take it and be happy. If they don't, I can understand why. No apologies from me if they do get in however. I'll just sit back and count haters.

BTX,

You're in. Don't worry about it.

If I were an OSU fan, I would be upset and, like you, I understand their argument. Until we get a real playoff format, we will have to endure this insane system where subjectivity, bias, and computers decide who gets to play. Hopefully, one day we can decide the national champion on the field. I honestly think Bama and LSU are the two best teams in the country and I am very much looking forward to watching the rematch.

All those in college football that tell us they don't want a playoff because every game matters means Oklahoma State should play LSU. Bama had their shot and lost and haven't won a conference title. I do think they are the second best team. Still, if the regular season games all count for something, they played LSU and lost. Get out of line.

I just don't get it, what is Ok St's def? Like 107th in the nation.   The team that beat them was 99th...  Yes you could argue that the numbers are misleading because every team is so behind that they have to pass inflating the stats but comeon...  You could argue the same for LSU and Alabama which ended up #1 and #2 in defense....  Ok St gave up 24 pts or more 9 times including 34 to Lousiana-Lafayette.    Did anyone in the Big 12 beat anyone of note outside their conference?    Kansas got destroyed by GA Tech, Iowa State beat Uconn, Texas AM lost to Ark, Texas beat UCLA, Missouri lost to Ariz St, Okl beat Fl St(only good win in the bunch), Baylor beat TCU(which was down realtively speaking), Kn St beat Miami who was going through a ton of issues, Ok St's best ooc win was a 4-8 Arizona team...

Conversely, UGA beat GA Tech, SC beat Clemson(ACC Champs and BCS), Vandy beat Uconn and Wake Forest, UT beat Cincy(shared BigLeast title),  LSU beats Oregon(pac12 and BSC) and WV(BigLeast champs and BCS), Bama beat Penn St, and Ark beat Texas AM.

All I’m saying is that who did the Big12 really play other than each other? SEC has wins over 3 other BCS teams and beat the champion of 3 different BCS conferences…

Now that is a great post.  I had not realized SEC teams beat the champion of 3 other BCS conferences.

The biggest disappointment last night was Virginia Tech getting an at large bid to the Sugar Bowl after being embarrassed by Clemson in the ACC Championship game.  Georgia or Arkanasas should be playing Michigan in the Sugar Bowl IMO.

Bama deserves the slot and the purpose of the BCS is to match up the two best teams in a NC game. I myself would love to see another team get a shot because I think Bama has already had its shot during the season, but Bama is the better team IMO. If OSU had went undefeated they would have the slot, the irony is even if they went undefeated Bama would still be the better team and would not have been given the BCS slot. Some sort of a playoff would match a bunch of teams that had already played and I doubt the results would be any different other than the Bama vs LSU game

MRM, you said you thought Bama was the second best team. The BCS is charged with getting the one and two teams to play against each other. There are not caveats - just one against two.

This is an extremely odd situation this year and another reason for a playoff. But you can bet there will be a bias against the SEC so that you couldn't have two teams from the same conference.

If there was a 8 team playoff this year a good argument could be made for 3 SEC teams being in the playoffs.

Here is my prediction - if Alabama wins we will have a split National champion with the AP crowning LSU their National Champion. That would be the second time that happened to LSU.

DV

PS Very nice post sed libera nos a malo.
