Yes you are and no, I'm not.

I'm not comparing you to Gray. I am using what you said and referenced. What Gray has said in the past is not relevant to anything you are saying. HE IS ASKING FOR WORK. Not a hand-out. How hard is that to understand. Can't you see the difference?

Gray may very well be full of hate as well, but that is not germane to the point I made...
You are trying to prove that Gray has been critical of people receiving government assistance and now, since he is asking for help, Gray is a hypocrite. The connection is simply not there. Not that same thing at all. He is asking for help finding work, not asking for food, money, or housing. You are blinded by your agenda.

And for the record, I am more inclined to your normal point of view toward government assistance for the needy than I am towards Gray's point of view. You are just wrong here.

Yes, you are wrong and, no, there is no hate in what I said.

1. Gray's hate is most certainly germane to this discussion. I don't know if you are familiar with him or not. I am. I have been debating him for well over a decade. I can say without a doubt I have never seen a bigger bigot, xenophobe, and all around misanthrope in that time. Gray has a long, sordid history of expressing his outright hatred of immigrants, gays, the poor, and minorities. His attitude has always been that these people are scum, who are beneath him, an attitude that belies his supposed Christian faith.

2. I never said or implied Gray was looking for government assistance. He is, however, looking for some kind of assistance. What do you think will happen come February if Gray hasn't had any luck finding a job (a situation tens of thousands of hard working people find themselves)? Will he let his children starve or will he be willing to take the same government assistance he has railed against for years? I hope it doesn't come to that, but should he be forced to use food stamps, THERE IS NO SHAME IN THAT. That's what it's for, to help hard working people like Gray who are down on their luck.

The problem is that Gray doesn't separate scam artists and bums, people who abuse the system, from ordinary folks like him in similar situations. In Gray's picayune mind, ANYONE receiving food stamps is a lazy bum. My only hope in pointing out the irony of Gray asking for help is that he is no different than they. Unless you were born like Paris Hilton, a lot of people need help at some point in their lives. That doesn't make them bad people as Gray thinks.

3. I never said Gray was a hypocrite. Your words, not mine. Don't put words in my mouth.

4. I'm not sure what part of "I wish him well and hope he finds a job" you don't understand. How you deduce I am full of hate is beyond me. The only thing I hope is that Gray grows as a person and realizes that the people he has fulminated against all these years are really no different than he is.

5. Yes, he is asking for work. So are the "wetbacks" he rails against. They want to feed their families too. And survey after survey shows that most people receiving government aid would rather have a real job. So, yes, I find it ironic and sad that Gray is now facing an economic reality that millions of others face, the same ones he has disparaged over and over. Pointing out the irony of the situation and his words is NOT hate.

Good grief I can't believe I am having this discussion.

I've been on this board for years under several different names . I know of Gray and his views. We can just agree to disagree about your rant. (But I'm right!). Trust me, I am more on your side politically than Gray's. But I still think you are off base with your tirade toward Gray.

Happy New Year

Cool. No harm done.

I really do hope Gray finds a job.

Best wishes and happy New Year too.

Gray said all those things ?? i never heard that side of the man.

God Bless You Gray - the ultimate lack of humanity and racism is the belief that these people cannot take care of themselves, that they are so dumb and incompetent that they need "our" help.

Gray is just doing what people do when looking for work - he is "networking" using his social contacts for leads.

From what I know Gray is a good person and not asking for anyone to send money to his paypal account.

I think most everyone here would try and help the others.  All of us run smack but this is a small sports forum and for the most part it isn't personal. Although someone did call me a cheap imitation of Rockytop (actually I thought that was funny). Did both RockyTop and OSKY die?

I bet Gray gets several people here to send him some good job prospects.  I know I will make a few calls.

For the record, I accept FL's comments, and I have learned one thing- you really DON'T know as far as job security...

His and NC's posts make lot more sense now, and I am feeling them. Am I ready to change my core beliefs? No. Is there massive fraud on social programs and their offshoots? Absolutely.

But when it hits home, it's rough.

So FL came on here and ripped me, then wished me well. I can live with that. I did make the comments he pasted, so therefore should acknowledge my sterotypicalism. I don't take back every single word, and I certainly cannot speak for those whose quotes and links I posted. But I have no ill will nor problem with FL's posts here or anywhere else.

I have been hit humbly and hard.

SERIOUSLY.

if the 86 people that are online right now all gave $10, that's a month of expenses.

Gray,

I think you are growing as a person. Adversity and hard times do tend to make most of us stronger and humble us at the same time. I suspect several posters have been in similar circumstances at one point or another. It does change your perspective.

I really do wish you well and hope you find a great job.
