Best we've ever done.  Thanks to Steve Spurrier and the decision he made to coach us back in 2004.  We are at the best level we have ever been in our history but still no championship.  Hopefully, he will get one at South Carolina before he retires.

I counted my chickens before they hatched.  I thought the SEC East would have 2 teams that won 11 games in a season today but Georgia lost in triple OT.

Has the SEC or any conference ever had 4 teams that won 11 + games in a season?  If Arkansas wins their bowl, that will be accomplished.  We had a chance @ 5 teams doing that until Georgia lost to 11 game winner Michigan State.

The Big 10 has 2 teams that won 11.  The ACC has a chance of 2 teams winning 11.  The Big 12 has 1 team that won 11.

The top 5 teams in the conference have won 55 games and if Alabama and LSU were not matched up, that total could have been 58 games.  Now the max is 57 games.

In 16 seasons, and in mostly 11 game regular season schedules, the great Hall of Famer Phil lead a mediocre historical program to

4     11 or more win seasons

and

5      10 win seasons.

Good to see the Cocks get their first 11 win season in 100+ years........

But hey, we are digging getting back to old school pre 1990!!!! 500 or less is the new normal for them Vols!!!!

That is quite an accomplishment but IMO, the SEC was not as strong in those days.  Most of the years, the SEC East was Tennessee a step behind Florida and the rest of the conference was a step or 2 behind them.  During the Phil Fulmer glory years @ UT(pre-Urban Meyer, Nick Saban, Les Miles, Steve Spurrier @ SC, Bobby Petrino), only two football championships were won in 1996 and 1998, ironically in championship games over Florida State.  Now the SEC wins the Championship every year and has 2 teams playing for the Championship this year.

If Phil Fulmer were a head coach in the SEC today @ UT, Florida, SC, or Georgia, could he accomplish 11 wins in a 12 or 13 game schedule?

Charlestown,

No to your question.

Don't forget that Alabama won the National Championship in '92. That was the year Fulmer took over what was thought to be a rebuilding year for UT. He had the Vols 4-0 with huge wins over Georgia and Florida. Majors came back from his sabbatical while the Vols were undefeated and ranked 4th in the nation. The team did not respond to the sudden change of leadership and proceeded to lose 3 straight, including an upset loss to your Gamecocks.

'92 was also the first year of 2 divisions of teams with a championship game between the division winners. UT was in the driver's seat of the East but fell apart after Johnny took over. '92 was also the first year in the SEC for South Carolina and Arkansas.

That '92 Bama defense was the best I have personally seen in 3 decades of following college football. Even though we lost to our bitter rival (again), you couldn't help but admire what an amazing defense they had. They dominated really good offenses. They also destroyed a highly favored Miami team to win the National Championship. That year was Phil's baptism into the SEC.

UTBB has a good chance of getting to 11.  That's 1 more than 10.

The 92 Bama team was a good one and wasn't that the first National Championship in football for the SEC in the 1990's.  Correct me if I am wrong but didn't the SEC only have 3 National Football Championships in the 1990's in 92, 96, and 98?

From 2000 to 2009 the SEC had 5 and could have had 6 if an undefeated Auburn team were not left out of the title game that USC recently had to vacate.

This 10 year period is beginning well for the SEC but the teams in the conference might be getting too good and it will be tough to keep the current BCS Championship winning streak alive IMHO.  Especially with the Big 12 conference weakend by expansion.  Oklahoma or Oklahoma State have a much easier route to go undefeated and match up against Southern Cal, Stanford, or Oregon from the Pac 12 to end the streak.

Well now douche, I guess we would all take that now knowing what I have been telling you redneck white sissy trash like yourself. It is much harder to win at UT than everyone thought because of the miracle Coach. Very weak even for a sissy redneck to bring up those two years in a Hall of Fame era coming off of two losing seasons and Kippy's season where he was favored in 9 games and won 7. He had over 8 NFL players the Great One left him including 4 of 5 OL that played in the NFL. Your going to have to get a better argument. You are looking like Saban after the Hat schools him annually.....ignant!!!

Bama

07 - 7-6   actually 2-6
06 - 6-7  actually 0-7
05-  0-2
04-  6-6
03-  4-9
01-  7-5
00 - 3-8
97 - 4-7

Been a rough one in NeckVille

Let me see.......When was the last time the duhvols were in the BCS????????? '01????????Since that time your one hit wonder produced zero championships unless you count that plaque for honorable mention in '07. Finished ranked in the top 5????????????????? Top ten?????????? BCS bowls?????????? Beat UF???????????? A ranked team??????????? Beat Bama??????????
How many games were the Vols favored in '08????? It's brown bag time in Koolaidville

Saban could win @ UT. So could Spurrier, Petrino, Miles  etc. The problem is UT was too cheap and hasty hiring a replacement and Fatty didn't recruit enough along the lines of scrimmage for the long haul as evidenced by all the transfers and busts. He got too lazy and used up all his equity without a ROI. Keep living in the past hater. You act like a post-Stallings pre-Saban Bama fan without the storied history of course. Get back to me when Phil has a winning season again.

As for the here and now, Bama's playing in their 2nd title game in 3 yrs. Where's your team @?
The ROI on Saban's 1st year paid his contract in full. All Phil gave you was fool's gold in '07 and you just can't let go. Sad.

I love the Living Legend & have enjoyed watching him take South Carolina to a new level.  I can't believe UT never went after him. I think with the right approach, they could have had him.
