Tony Spangler is in his fifth year at LaTech and during his tenure the defense moved from last in the BCS to the top defensive unit in the Western Athletic Conference. He was hired by Dooley at LaTech and he is a GA graduate. He has coached at Georgia Southern, helping lead the program to a pair of Division I-AA national titles. He spent 10 seasons at Division II Presbyterian College in Clinton, S.C., where he served as the head coach from 2001-2006. On top of that he has a son named Peyton. Take it for what it's worth.

Is UT considering Vic Koenning.  Supposedly he is headed to UNC from Illinois.  His defense was ranked in the top 20 this season and he put together some good defenses @ Clemson under Tommy Bowden so he has recruiting connections in SC, NC, GA, and FLA.  When Bowden was fired, he finished the season but refused to coach under Dabo after the season so he left.

Didn't read the rest of this thread, so   if this has been mentioned...

Did the BAYLOR DC really just turn UTjr's offer down?
Baylor?? Gave up 620 total yards in the bowl game. That Baylor?

I don't blame a coach for not wanting to jump in that dumpster fire only to be fired next year when UTjr hires a new head coach.

But Baylor's DC?

I just heard that Auburn hired Brian Van Gorder from the Falcons.  This will probably get coverage during the BCS game tonight.

Van Gorder was fired from the Falcons

He was our DC for about a week before he left to take the Falcon's job he was just released from.  Funny thing, he was a coach for us for such a short time, it is not included on his resume.  He did well as a DC in the SEC at Georgia but the NFL has not been kind to him.

We'll see how it works out for him next season.

Wonder if he will bring Charlie Harbison, Dan Brooks, or lure Chris Rumph from Alabama.  At Clemson, they say his defense is too complicated and the players were confused.  They simplified it but was ineffective and the players could not line up correctly.  Maybe he can do better @ UT.

For what it is worth, Spangler is listed in the GoVols extra poll and was mentioned by Jimmy H on his show as a candidate.

God make it stop!!!  Please Dooley et el - stop giving rivals so much material to work with - it is getting crazy and Dooley can't get out of his own way.
